When we keep pets, we inevitably carry a sense of guilt. By leashing dogs or placing small animals in cages, we deprive them of freedom. This feeling becomes even more acute with birds, whose natural state is to fly freely through the sky. Yet we still long to enjoy pets without the burden of guilt. In response, I have created what I call an “ideal space” for birds within a cage—an environment that promises their happiness, or at least the illusion of it. By doing so, we declare ourselves free from guilt. “Goodbye, guilt. We are one step closer to utopia.”

私たちはペットを飼うとき、必ずある種の罪悪感を抱える。犬を繋ぎ、小動物をケージに入れることは、彼らの自由を奪う行為だからだ。特に空を自由に飛ぶ鳥をケージに入れるとき、その感覚はより鋭くなる。しかし、それでも私たちは罪悪感を感じずにペットを飼いたいと願っている。私はその欲望に応えるかのように、鳥のための「理想的な空間」をケージの中に設えた。そこでは鳥たちが幸福になると想定され、私たちは罪悪感から解放されたと感じることができる。「さようなら、罪悪感。私たちはユートピアに一歩近づいたのだ。」
